Wishing the PGRS
members a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year and you are
surrounded by the love of family and friends.
We had a great
turnout for our Christmas party at Max’s Allegheny Tavern where
we had a delicious all you can eat buffet. A big "Thank you"
to Bruce & Reggie Watkins, Tina Weimer, Alycefaye Stewart, and
Bob & Carol Gettemy for all their hard work to make our
Christmas party a big success, and to Al Hartman and Bert
Mangold for running the 50/50. We missed Bill Patterson and his
stories this year, so we’ll give him a rain check for next year.
Please see the photos of the party.
This year at the
Christmas party we honored the following members with pins of
service: for ten years Barrie Barker, Don & Linda Barnot,
Darwin, Sharon & Ryan Honsaker, Dave Shanefelter; receiving
twenty year pins are Keith Baggus, Ed Banks, and Alycefaye
Stewart. Please take a minute to congratulate them and to thank
them for their years of participation in the PGRS. Tina will
mail pins to those who were not in attendance.
Thank you to our
officers for agreeing to serve another year: Keith Baggus
–President, Donald Goodwin-Vice president, Tina
Weimer-Treasurer, and Alycefaye Stewart-Secretary. Please help
them whenever you can in the coming year.
I’m sorry that
the open house scheduled for the weekend of December 9 & 10 had
to be canceled at the Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation
Museum. Ernie Bradmon, president of the museum, thanks the
members of the PGRS for all that they have done for the museum.
John & Tina went out to the museum on December 13, and ran the
trains for a group of school kids. Tina reported that the kids
loved the trains and the girls liked all the details in the
display. Ernie would like to wish the PGRS a Happy New year.
meeting of the year is our annual planning meeting scheduled for
January 20, 1:00 pm, at the
Carnegie United Methodist Church,
415 Washington Avenue, Carnegie, Pa 15106. We are looking
for ideas and for people to host meetings in the coming year. If
anyone would like to host a meeting or have a special month they
would like to host, please let me know before the meeting and
we’ll get it on the calendar. As always we are looking for
ideas to help make this an extra special year for the club, so
please share your thoughts and ideas. If we did something you
really enjoyed and would like to do again, please let us know.
For the 2018
calendar the officers have decided not to have a February
meeting. John & Tina Weimer will be out of town, and I will be
going to Florida in February. We will start off with the
second meeting for the year in March. We have been asked to do a
show again for the Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation
Museum again in May for the National Pike Festival, and in
August for the Brownsville Days. The Castle Shannon Fire
Department has asked us back to do their train show in October.
Ken Maglietta has offered to host the PGRS family picnic in
August. Clack Kemmerer & Alice Angelo offered to host the
September meeting. This is a good start to the 2018 calendar.
We are looking
for ideas, new or old ones, and for people who like to volunteer
to host one of the monthly meetings. I hope that we can schedule
some workshops for our meetings. Some examples: if you have a
special talent, you can share your knowledge with the group; if
you need help with your layout, the group can lend a hand.

I was looking in
AAA/Travel paper for January and they are offering this trip out
to Lancaster in March. It is five dollars more and it doesn’t
include admission to Dutch Apple Theatre for the play
“Grease” and dinner. This tells me we have a good
deal for this trip..
The second trip
I’m working on is for this fall to the Henry Ford Museum of
American Innovation and Greenfield Village to see and ride the
trains. I’m looking to do this the end of September or the
beginning of October. this will be an overnight trip. As soon
as I get it all together I’ll have all the information in the
Just a reminder
that PGRS dues are due for 2018 by January 31. If you have not
sent them in, please do and save us the cost of sending you a
