I had a good friend tell me now that she is
retired her days drag on forever, and her months fly by so fast.
I have to agree. It’s hard to believe that it’s already December
and the PGRS is getting ready to celebrate another holiday
season. We started off by going out to Brownsville in November
to the Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation Museum to set up
a display for them to use for their December open house the
weekend of December 9-10, noon to 4PM. We are looking for some
volunteers to help out running the trains. If you can help
please let me know. Please tell your family and friends about
the open house and invite them out to see our display. After we
set up the lay out, we went out to Hugo’s restaurant. This has
slowly become tradition any time the club goes out to
Brownsville. (Please see photos of meeting)
Saturday, December 2, 5:00PM is the PGRS Christmas Party at
Max’s Allegheny Tavern. Alycefaye and Tina have mailed out the
invitations, annual dues for 2018, and directions to the tavern.
If you have any questions please call and we’ll try to answer
them. Big thank you to Bruce and Reggie Watkins for making all
the arrangements for our Christmas party. This year the members
voted to start using the money raised by the 50/50 for door
prizes for the party. Just a reminder, we had been putting the
money in the new trailer fund but now we’re going back to having
door prizes as we had done in the past.
This year at the Christmas party we will honor the following
members with pins of service: this year for ten years they are
Barrie Baker, Don & Linda Barnot, Darwin, Sharon & Ryan Honsaker,
and Dave Shanefelter; receiving twenty year pins are Keith
Baggus, Ed Banks, and Alycefaye Stewart. Please take a minute to
congratulate and say thanks to them for their years of
participation in the PGRS.
Thank you to our officers for agreeing to serve another year:
Keith Baggus- President, Donald Goodwin-Vice president, Tina
Weimer – Treasurer, and Alycefaye Stewart- Secretary. Please
help them whenever you can in the coming year.
With the start of a new year just ahead it is time to start
thinking about putting together the calendar for 2018. This is
one of the hardest jobs the club has to do, but with the help of
our members volunteering to host different meeting we always get
it done. The officers have been talking about not having a
meeting the month of February. John & Tina Weimer will be out of
town, and I will be going to Florida in February and the idea is
just skip the month of February.
For the 2018 calendar we have been asked to do a show again for
the Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation Museum in May for
the National Pike Festival, and in August for the Brownsville
Days. The Castle Shannon Fire Department has asked us back to do
their train show in October. Ken Maglietta has offered to host
the PGRS family picnic in August. This is a good start to the
We are looking for ideas, new or old ones, and for people who
like to volunteer to host one of the monthly meetings. I hope
that we can schedule some workshops for our meetings. If you
have a special talent you can share your knowledge with the
group; if you need help with your layout, the group can lend a
hand. If you have a special month you would like to host, please
call me before the January meeting and I can put it on the
calendar and lock that month in for you.
