start of a new year is always a very exciting time when we look
forward to what the new year has in store for us, new people
we’ll meet, places we’ll go and see, and experiences we’ll have,
some we never would have thought of. The planning meetings the
club had the end of January cover all of these and then some.
The PGRS has a very good year planned for 2016.
We did a great job on the calendar for 2016, and we just have to
do a little fine tuning, getting time and dates squared away. I
would like to say a very big thank you to the members who
volunteered to host one of this year's meetings and to those who
volunteered to help in the running of the club. Please look over
the 2016 calendar and keep in mind that this is a work in
progress and we’ll be making some changes through out the year.
We are still working on a trip for this year; we are looking at
going for a ride on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and the
Potomac Eagle or going to the Sugar Creek area and the Age of
Steam Roundhouse. Please let the officers know what you think
and what you would like best.
It was decided that with the postponing of January's meeting to
the 30th we would skip a February meeting this year, and our
next regular meeting will be March.
The March meeting will be at Children’s Hospital, Sunday, March
6th at 2:00 PM. The PGRS has many members who have never seen
the display. Many members would like to revisit the work they
did. This would be a good time to see the layout and the work
Dave Bodnar does in his weekly visit to Children’s to maintain
the display. This would be a good time for our members to take a
minute to thank Dave for all his work on the display. When they
have a problem they just call Dave, and he takes care of it.
Postponing January's meeting, I was told, was the best decision
I ever made for the club. The weather was not good! I would like
to thank all our members who so generosity donated to the
trailer fund, and also Donald Goodwin for all his work on this
project. To our members who didn’t make it to the January
meeting, please check out the photos of the trailer. Note in the
one photo, Dave is standing in the middle of the trailer and he
can’t touch both sides at the same time. The best part is that
you can stand up inside the trailer and not hit your head. I
told Al Hartman we ordered this one just for him, I think every
time Al helped load the old trailer he hit his head, but it is
safe to say all of us will appreciate this. In the other photos
you can see we have room to grow. When I get back from Florida I
will start building another set of boxes that should take most
everything off the floor of the trailer. Don tells me that we
should have room for a fifth set of boxes in the trailer when
the time comes. We are looking into getting insurance for the
The clothing with the PGRS logos are in and they look great, If
you didn’t pick your items up at the January meeting you can get
them at the next meeting or call Alycefaye and make other
At January's meeting we welcomed new members Michael Bowen,
Deborah Smithule, Daniel Cinowalt, and Joe Welling. Please take
a minute and give then a big PGRS welcome to the club and
introduce yourself. We all have been the new member and it’s a
lot easier for us to welcome them, and make them feel at home.
I will be leaving for Florida February 7th and coming back the
middle of March. If there are any questions for or about the
club, Donald Goodwin our vice president, and Alycefaye Stewart
our secretary will be handling them. Tina Weimer our treasurer
is vacationing in Georgia this month, and will be back in March.
